Want to Have One of the Best Lensographies Ever?

Think of your lensography as your Squidoo home page. It can be the single URL that you direct people to, and they will have access to ALL of your lenses.

Wait, what's a lensography you ask? It's a collection of all of your hard work here on Squidoo. A showcase. It should be well organized ...and look fabulous.

So how do you do that? Hey! You've come to the right place to find out. Lucky you ;)

The Top Five Reasons to Have a Lensography

  • It's one easy address to promote.
  • It will become your calling card online.
  • People will get a chance to find out more about you, the lensmaster.
  • You can do anything you want with it!
  • They are really fun to look through. :)

#1 Choose your Template

Squidoo Lensographies

Now that you are thinking of starting your own lensography the first thing you need to decide is which format you would like to use. There are at least 5 different options that I think work well for a Lensography.

(You can see examples of each format below this link list.)
SquidWho
Show 'em your Who's Who on Squidoo.
People Who Matter
You matter to Squidoo!
Standard Lens
Original is good!
The Ever Project
Best, coolest, wittiest...so many adjectives to choose from. :D
Squidoo Group
Groups work too!

A SquidWho Lensography

Hey, I've gotta pimp my own lens. ;)

A People Who Matter Lensography

This was chosen as "Lens of the Day" for March 12th, 2008.

A Standard Lens Lensography

It's rumored that thefluffanutta was the first lensmaster to use the term "lensography".

An Ever Project Lensography

Ok, this isn't quite a lensography, but it's a good example of what one could look like.

A Group Lensography

This is one of the best uses of a group as a lensography I've seen.

#2 Add your Content

So you've decided on the template...now what?

Take a look at your list of lenses. Figure out how best to show them off. Do you have common themes? Can you group them together in a way that makes sense?

Give the readers an understanding of what they are looking at. Help them find lenses that they will be interested in. And add in personal touches...talk about you!

Make sure you not only include your lenses, but your groups too. That is especially important now that groups have been removed from lensmaster pages. If you have a large number of groups you may want to create a separate lens as a "Groupography".

Don't be afraid to add images, polls, videos, the feed to your blog, even items for sale (just don't over do that last one).

Just like on your other lenses, talk about what you know and what you love...and have fun with it!

The single most useful module for Lensographies

The Featured Lenses Module

The Featured Lenses module is a great tool but can be a little tricky to find.

First, in your workshop, click on Add Modules. I'm sure you know that part already. ;)

Click on the Search (A-Z) tab.

Choose F...and then you will see the Featured Lenses option at the top of the list.

You can show up to 5 of your lenses and groups at a time per module. If you add more than 5 the lenses displayed will rotate each time someone views the page.

If you want to have all of your lenses and groups showing at once just keep adding more Featured Lens modules. :)

To add a lens to the module copy & paste in the last part of your lens' URL. If, for example, you wanted to add the lens http://www.squidoo.com/Christene to your module you only need to enter the "Christene" part.

This works for all lens co-brands except for Ever.com lenses. But there is a way to add those too. If your lens was http://best.cameras.ever.com/ you need to use "best-cameras-ever". You are replacing the dots with dashes and make sure to leave off the ".com" at the end.

Groups are also a little different. For a group URL of http://www.squidoo.com/groups/Families you would use "groups/Families" or "groups..Families".

#3 Put your Lensography to the Test!

Add your URL here.
Let's let other lensmasters decide which is the best of the best.

I added my lensography to the list. I just finished it enough to publish it. One of my lenses made the top 100 yesterday and I posted that information in my lensography.
